Elmhurst Alderman (2009–2013): As Vice Chair of the Public Affairs & Safety Committee, Paula partnered with police, fire, and county leaders to improve safety, expand pedestrian crossings, and install new sidewalks. She also launched Coffee and Conversation to keep residents directly engaged with local government.

In 2020 Paula created the still-popular “TakeOut 25-Elmhurst” FaceBook group, to aid the struggling Elmhurst food and beverage establishments during the Covid shut down. This rallied more than 7,000 members to spend $25 a week on take-out, supporting local restaurants and keeping businesses afloat during a trying time for all small businesses.
